It is a very widely accepted belief that you cannot have your cake and eat it too when it comes to seeding a lawn in the spring and applying a pre-emergent to prevent weed growth. You are either able to seed a lawn in the spring or you could apply a pre-emergent in the spring but you can not do both.

WRONG – There is a pre-emergent on the market available to us which will not have a negative impact on grass seed germination and it’s called Tupersan.  If you use Tupersan, you can overseed your lawn or establish a new lawn with overseeding and have no negative effects.  This product is more expensive than the other more commonly used pre-emergent but it is available and is a great tool for us in the lawn care business to be able to use.
